Ways to practice spelling:
Rainbow Spelling
1. Copy the list of words correctly you want to practice. At the top of your paper, write the vowels in one color using a coloring pencil
2. After each word, spell the word, saying the letters as you write them
3. If the letter you write is a vowel write that letter in a color as brain research tells us our brain likes color and will help us remember the word.
***It is important to write the letters one at a time as they appear in the word. DO NOT write the consonants and leave a blank where the vowels go and fill them in later.
Example:
1. should should
2. isn't isn't
3. because because
Look, Cover, Write, Check

4. Say the letters to yourself in that word. ex: should s-h-o-u-l-d
5. Cover the first flap and lift the second flap up.
6. Write the word, saying the letters as you write them.
7. Lift the first flap and compare the word you just wrote with the first word.
8. If it is written correctly, go onto the next word and repeat 1-7.
9. If the word is incorrect, say the letters to yourself again in that word.
10. Close the first flap, open the third flap and write the word, saying the letters as you write them.
11. Check under the first flap to see if the word is spelled correctly.
12. Continue practicing until you've practiced all the words.
