Homework expectations:
Students have 3 homework expectations:
*Read 20 minutes minimum each night. The goal for the year is to read 40 books at the student's just right level.
**Practice spelling words from individual list
Study spelling words. The words on the list are the "most used words" in writing. We will study 2 times at school before each test. Students are to study at home until they know all their words. Students have learned two strategies to practice their words:
Look, Cover, Write, Check and Rainbow Spelling. Parents could also give their child a practice test.
An entire spelling level has 100 words. Each spelling test is 25 words, therefore, a "set" is 25 words. Set 1 is the first 25 words, set 2 would be the NEXT set of 25 words, etc. After 4 spelling tests have been given, if your child misses five words or less on that level, they will move to the next level of words.
***Spend time on the IXL math site. Great place to practice skills such as telling time, money, geometry, measurement, probability, graphing, and estimating.
